How the score works

Emergency fund + cash left − 1.5 × debt. Debt counts extra because credit cards cost up to 18% a year. You started with RM680 cash and a RM1,000 fund.

Common questions

How is the Payday score worked out?

Your score is your emergency fund plus the cash you have left, minus any credit card debt you ran up, which counts at 1.5 times because it costs 15–18% a year to carry. Credit card use is the only way to go below zero cash.

Are the prices realistic?

They are illustrative, based on a single person earning RM3,000 a month in the Klang Valley, with take-home pay of about RM2,650 after EPF, SOCSO and EIS. Rent and bills are already paid; the game starts with the money that is left.

Is there a right answer?

Not always. Some cards test whether you protect your emergency fund; others show that spending on something you value is fine when it is planned. The explanation after each choice says why.
