Uses current statutory rates — employee 11%; employer 13% (salary RM5,000 and below) or 12% (above RM5,000) — with dividends compounded yearly on your assumption. *"Sustains monthly" divides the corpus over 20 years of retirement, ignoring post-retirement returns — a deliberately conservative gauge. Common questions

How are EPF contributions calculated?

For most Malaysian employees, the employee contributes 11% of monthly wages and the employer contributes 12% (13% for wages below the statutory threshold). Rates differ for older workers and for voluntary contributors, and statutory rates are revised from time to time, so confirm the current figures on the official KWSP site before relying on a projection.

What dividend does EPF pay?

EPF declares a dividend annually, separately for its Conventional and Shariah savings, and the rate varies year to year with investment performance. It has historically landed in the mid single digits. Because it is declared rather than guaranteed in advance, any projection should test a range — try 4%, 5%, and 6% and see how much your outcome moves.

When can I withdraw my EPF savings?

Full withdrawal is generally available from age 55, with a further option at 60, alongside a set of partial withdrawal schemes for specific purposes such as housing, education, and healthcare. Conditions change, so check the current rules on the official KWSP website rather than relying on older guidance.

What is i-Saraan?

i-Saraan is an EPF scheme for self-employed and informal-sector workers who have no employer contributing on their behalf. Members make voluntary contributions and receive a government incentive on top, subject to annual limits and eligibility conditions. It is one of the few ways gig and self-employed workers can build formal retirement savings.
